Changes in ComEd
May 13, 2016

ComEd has released new default supply pricing starting in June 2016. Pricing is substantially lower.

Jan 2016 – June 2016 June 2016 – Sep 2016 Sep 2016 – May 2017
Residential $0.06987 $0.06195 $0.06315
Commercial $0.06952 $0.06219 $0.06306
Commercial – Electric Space Heat $0.06839 $0.05725 $0.06187

* The above pricing is inclusive of electricity and transmission but does not include the purchased electricity adjustment factor which can range from -$.005 to +$.005.

Why have the ComEd prices gone down in 2016, and most supplier pricing has gone up?

The current make-up of the ComEd supply price is using capacity from recent years, which has been much lower ($59.37 MW/day) than the 2 previously purchased blocks of electricity which incorporated the higher capacity prices ($125.99 MW/day and $136.00 MW/day).

Suppliers purchase electricity for their customer based on future market conditions, and capacity sky rockets to $215.00 MW/day in 2018.
