An update on PJM NITS fee increase
Sep 11, 2014

Customers in PJM may be confused by an additional charge and/or a specific line item showing up on their electricity bill.

  • Back in June, 2013, we provided information on Network Integration Transmission Service (NITS) fee increases going into effect. While this fee increase impacted all of PJM, it more specifically affected the following utilities Atlantic City Electric Company, Delaware Power & Light (DE and MD), PEPCO (DC and MD), Baltimore Gas & Electric, Duquesne Light, PPL, ComEd, Penn Power, and PSE&G. This charge is largely based on upgrades to the PJM ISO system which has a significant impact within the utilities’ service territories.

NITS has increased again this year.

And suppliers are passing through this increase onto their customers. It may show up as a specific line item on a customers’ electricity bill, while other suppliers may simply pass the charges through. Any change in NITS fees occur yearly – June 1st or January 1st. Increases can range from .001 / kWh to .012 / kWh depending on the utility and customer.
