Paper mills and cogeneration
Summary: A summary of combined heat and power (CHP) in paper mills in Wisconsin, Michigan, and other Midwestern states.
AUS Comment: The environmental and economic benefits of the use of combined heat and power (CHP) in paper mills may point to opportunities for states to achieve RPS mandates and economically viable ways help them to comply with new EPA rules.
California moves towards strengthening state’s geothermal industry
Summary: The California Assembly’s Natural Resources Committee approved SB 1139, a bill which would strengthen the geothermal industry’s position in the state if enacted. Under the bill, retail sellers would need to increase their geothermal-powered electricity use by a combined total of 500 MW by 2024.
AUS Comment: It is estimated that about 50% of California’s known geothermal resources are still untapped. Already, the state has a solid geothermal industry that has proven to be successful. It provides about 4.4% of the total system power, more than any other non-hydro renewable. The next step is for the bill to be heard in August by the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Summary: Managed Green, a California-based company specializing in LED retrofit products, announces its partnership with Alternative Utility Services, Inc. to offer clients a wider range of professional procurement and consulting services including natural gas, electric, residential aggregation, reverse auction, geothermal, cogeneration, auditing and benchmarking.
