PJM Posts New NITS effective 6/1/13
Jun 26, 2013

As a result of these new rates, multiple utilities have submitted, or are expected to submit, requests to FERC for an increase in NITS fees. This charge is largely based on upgrades to the PJM ISO system which has a significant impact within the utilities’ service territories. Some providers have decided to pass through the NITS charges that are beyond those previously included within customers’ electricity supply rate.

The NITS fee increase will affect all customers in the PJM service territory.

It may show up as a specific line item on a customer’s electricity bill, while other suppliers may simply pass the charges through. The utilities which are affected are PPL, DUQ, ACE, PEPCO, Delmarva, COMED and PSEG.

NITS or Network Integration Transmission Service (PJM Network Integration Transmission Service) is used for the transmission of capacity and energy from network generating resources to PJM network loads. It allows a Transmission Customer to integrate, plan, economically dispatch, and regulate its Network Resources to serve its Network Load in a manner comparable to that in which the Transmission Provider utilizes its Transmission System to serve its Native Load customers. Network Integration Transmission Service also may be used by the Transmission Customer to deliver non-firm energy purchases to its Network Load without additional charge.
